The Chalking of Ghent

Colley Avenue is one of Norfolk's most vibrant and fun streets, and on June 5th it became a little brighter during The Chalking of Ghent, an event put on by AltDaily.com and the Ghent Business Association. People of all ages came out to decorate, play, eat, compete, and raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Norfolk. We couldn't resist checking out the art... here's some of what we found:

Changing the world with tacos at San Antonio Sam's...

A block-long PacMan battle...

A little garden

Treacherous terrain!

Plenty of opportunities for hopscotch

Fun for all at the Naro

Button!

A blue dog at Red Dog

A trail of art by Fairgrounds

The scene of a crime...a crime of dancing?

Some funky alien friends

Working hard or hardly working?

Look what we found!

We decided to take part...

...look at that concentration!

Ta-da! Some shameless advertising.

Preface

An old adage says that only boring people get bored. Well, sometimes, especially when you have lived in the same city for almost your entire life, things can get a little boring. So to prove the adage wrong, what do the bored do? They get creative.

We go away to college and everything is not necessarily always fun, but there is always something happening. So sure, when we come home, we sometimes make several self-reporting calls to the whaaa-mbulance because "we're borrreeedd," but no more! In our blog, dear reader (who we hope but perhaps doubt exists), we're going to photograph and write about the things that we think make Norfolk great because, well, it is. We may begrudge it for its lacking part-time summer job market, but we love it nonetheless.

The task is simple: a few posts a week reviewing our adventures and exploits. We encourage suggestions of places to visit, and have several in mind. Look forward to our first real post in the next week.

Cheers!
